Situated on Resurrection Bay on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, Seward is a charming seaside town with picturesque mountain views. Often called the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, it’s the perfect place to spend a few days enjoying some of the most stunning views you’ll ever see. Although the opportunities for pictures are endless in a location this beautiful, I’ve outlined a few photo spots that you definitely won’t want to miss.
Here are 8 photo spots in Seward that you’ll want to check out!
1. Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords National Park is home to some of Alaska’s most incredible glaciers, as well as sea life such as orcas, humpback whales, puffins, seals and more. Because a lot of the park isn’t accessible by land, the best way to view these remarkable sights is from the water. Book a boat tour to reach locations you’d otherwise miss out on seeing and you’ll be blown away by the scenery around you.
2. Seward Boat Harbor
A stroll along the Seward Boat Harbor and Waterfront Path is sure to result in beautiful photos. From quaint shops and restaurants to gorgeous boats in the harbor, there will be plenty to photograph along the way. If you’re lucky you may even be able to spot sea otters from the docks or a humpback whale swimming in the harbor from the shore.
3. Alaska SeaLife Center
The Alaska SeaLife Center is a small aquarium showcasing local marine life including puffins, seals and sea lions. It’s a great place to stop if you have a free afternoon, guaranteeing you’ll see many different types of ocean life during your trip. You could easily spend a few hours here wandering between exhibits and enjoying an up close look at these sea creatures.
4. Exit Glacier Salmon Bake
Along with delicious food, Exit Glacier Salmon Bake provides patrons with a rustic dining experience. Housed in a log cabin, the pub is decorated in wood tones and outdoor and fishing gear adorns the walls and ceiling. The cozy atmosphere, along with mountain views from the outdoor patio make it perfect place to capture memories from your trip.
5. Resurrect Art Coffee House
Resurrect Art Coffee House is a quaint cafe and art gallery located in a refurbished church. Snap a few photos and grab a coffee or browse the small shop to find a souvenir to take home. Even if you don’t find that perfect memento, I recommend stopping by for the coffee and bakery alone. As a bonus, even their coffee cups are worth a quick snap!
6. Exit Glacier
Exit Glacier is one of the most visited glaciers in the world and one of the easiest to get to in Kenai Fjords National Park. Park your car at the Exit Glacier Nature Center and follow the Glacier Overlook Trail to reach Exit Glacier Overlook. After a short hike, you’ll be treated with one of the best views possible of Exit Glacier. On your way back down the trail, take a detour on Glacier View Loop Trail to reach Glacier View, which gives you an excellent look at the area where the glacier once reached.
7. Resurrection River
The Resurrection River, which flows through Kenai Fjords National Park and empties into Resurrection Bay, is an awesome place to stop for a photo and to sit and relax on a sunny afternoon. The river combined with the mountains in the background make it difficult to take a bad photo here. Pack a picnic and find a quiet spot along the river to enjoy lunch with a view. You’ll probably see others doing the same!
